Growing in Faith, Learning, and Independence
Welcome to our PreK4 classroom, where children are nurtured academically, socially, spiritually, and emotionally in a loving Christian environment. Our class is intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 15 students, allowing each child to receive individualized attention from both a certified teacher and a classroom assistant.
Our goal is simple: to prepare children for a successful transition into full-day kindergarten while helping them grow in confidence, responsibility, and independence.
Please Note: All children enrolled in PreK4 must be fully potty trained.
Our Daily Learning
Each day begins with an engaging and interactive Circle Time, where children develop important listening skills while building foundational academic knowledge.
During Circle Time, we explore:
- 📅 Calendar concepts
- ☀️ Daily weather
- 🌡️ Temperature
- 🔤 Letter of the Week
- 🔢 Number of the Week
- 🎨 Color of the Week
- ⭐ Shape of the Week
- 🎵 Songs, movement, and classroom discussions
This extended group time helps children build the attention span and classroom behaviors needed for kindergarten success.
Learning Through Small Groups
While children participate in purposeful free play, the teacher works with small groups of 3–5 students on activities designed to build essential kindergarten readiness skills.
These activities may include:
- Letter recognition and letter sounds
- Early reading and literacy skills
- Math concepts
- Science exploration
- Art and crafts
- Educational games
- Fine motor development
Small groups allow instruction to be personalized to meet each child’s individual needs.
Individualized Support
As students become more confident playing cooperatively and independently, our classroom assistant provides additional individualized instruction.
This may include:
- Practicing fine motor skills
- Reinforcing concepts that need extra practice
- Providing enrichment and additional challenges for children who have mastered PreK4 expectations
- Building confidence through one-on-one encouragement
Every child is supported at his or her own developmental level.
Building Independence
One of the most important goals of our PreK4 program is helping children become independent learners and responsible classroom citizens.
Throughout the year, students practice everyday life skills such as:
- Pouring their own water at snack
- Opening lunch and snack containers independently
- Putting on coats, hats, and gloves
- Zipping jackets
- Cleaning up after themselves
- Following classroom routines
- Placing completed work into folders
- Packing folders into backpacks independently
These simple daily responsibilities help prepare children for the expectations of elementary school.
Developing Kindergarten Skills
Children also learn to:
- Listen during whole-group instruction
- Follow multi-step directions
- Work quietly and independently
- Complete teacher-directed activities
- Develop strong attention and self-control
- Respect classmates and classroom rules
These classroom habits are essential for success in kindergarten and beyond.
The Importance of Play
While we place a strong emphasis on academic readiness, we also recognize that play is an essential part of learning.
Children enjoy daily opportunities for:
- Creative play
- Dramatic play
- Building and construction
- Sensory exploration
- Social interaction
- Problem-solving with peers
Through play, children develop creativity, language, cooperation, and critical thinking skills.
Daily Recess
Students participate in daily outdoor recess whenever weather permits. When outdoor play is not possible, children enjoy indoor recess with activities that encourage movement, exercise, and fun.
A Christian Foundation
Our classroom is rooted in Christian values. Through daily Bible lessons, prayer, songs, and Christ-centered character development, children learn about God’s love while practicing kindness, respect, compassion, and thankfulness in their daily interactions.
Preparing Children for Kindergarten—and for Life
Our PreK4 program combines academic readiness, Christian values, hands-on learning, purposeful play, and the development of independence. By the end of the year, students leave our classroom with the confidence, skills, and character needed to thrive in full-day kindergarten.
