Pub Theology

pub-theology-1

Join us on the first Monday of the month (October – May)
from 6:30pm to 8:00pm to participate in interesting conversation over delicious food and drink.
We gather at Little Sicily Pizza, 26 Crooked Lane, Bridgeport
**Little Sicily is BYOB; they add a surcharge for non-cash purchases**

Upcoming questions:

May 5th: How do you know when you are hearing from God?

What to expect at Pub Theology:

  • No RSVP required; all ages interested in discussion are invited – you do not need to be a member of Good Shepherd. Bring a friend!
  • We eat from 6:30pm to 7:15pm (separate checks).
  • From 7:15pm to 8:00pm we have conversation around a question, which might be philosophical, ethical, or religious. There are no right or wrong answers, just a sharing of ideas.

What is Pub Theology?
People have been gathering in pubs and public spaces for ages, talking about life, philosophy, faith, and deep questions of meaning. Today, people are rediscovering the pub as a safe, open space where they can explore and express their own doubts and questions, learn from others, and engage people of varying religious traditions. In our increasingly fractured society, these spaces are not only welcome, but needed.

Bring your questions, your curiosity, and pull up a chair.

The format is simple: a beverage, conversation, and God. Engage with people of varying religious traditions, philosophical perspectives and life experiences. You are invited to share your own wrestlings and thoughts while learning something new along the way.*

  • What role do rituals play in your life?
  • “You become what you think about all day long.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson  “What do you think about? How does it shape you?”
  • What does the good life look like?
  • What one piece of advice would you offer to a newborn infant?
  • What are your “super powers” or “spiritual gifts?” If you don’t know what your spiritual gifts are, what spiritual gifts do other people see in you and which gifts do you see in others?
  • Are values created, or inherent in the universe? Will any new values arise in the future?
  • How does free will affect my faith? Do I choose God or does God choose me?
